US Road Trip 2024 – Day 3

Day 3: Durango to Salt Lake City via Moab

A couple of press releases to write during the morning on an event in Europe (+8hrs) but I chose a route via Moab and the Arches National Park on the long 400-mile run north-west from Colorado into Utah and an overnight stay in Salt Lake City.

Still at an altitude of between 5,000 and 8,000 feet throughout a long day, the adverse weather conditions of the Rockies were a thing of the past once I’d left the torrential rain and overnight thunderstorms behind in Durango and the surrounding area on Saturday morning.

The first 165 miles took me on the 160 and 184 via Mancos, Dolores, Lewis and Dove Creek to join the 191 at Monticello and cross the state line from Colorado into Utah.

From stunning Moab, it was a near four-hour climb through the Arches National Park region, via stunning rocky backdrops and vast plains, through Green River, the ghost town at Soldier Summit (7477ft), Price and Provo to complete the additional 240 miles to Salt Lake City.
