Sohar, Majis and Harmul, Oman, January 26th, 2025
Some spare time after the rally in Oman and I decided to visit the surrounding area around Sohar. A delighted stroll along the Corniche to see Sohar Fort and the souk and then a leisurely drive along a narrow coast road through quaint villages and areas of older housing to the time-stood-still fishing village of Majis.
The local fishing boats line the side of the road and the strip is a museum for rusting old Land Cruisers and Nissans battered by time and salt but still used to transport the narrow fishing boats to the Gulf waters. From there, I headed past the vast Sohar oil refinery and port to the small town of Liwa and the quaint coastal settlement of Harmul.
Then, it was time to head inland along Highway 7 and into the Al-Hajar mountains to take in several stunning mountain and wadi scenes before heading back to Sohar to catch up on some work before the late night drive back to Muscat and the onward journey to broken communist Britain.
