Costa RicaSan José

La Paz Waterfall, Costa Rica, September 6th, 2024

The driver cancelled on me at 20.30 last night so the trek to the active volcano went out of the window.

Thanks to the hotel I managed to arrange someone to take me across the Central Valley, through the coffee plantations and strawberry fields into the mountains and out on to the Caribbean side which sees less rain this time of year than the Pacific coast. They said …

Heavy traffic leaving San José but I managed two hours in the rain forest and a visit to this stunning nature reserve with its famous water falls.

I have never seen rain like it as I started the climb down to the series of five falls. Noah would have been proud. Truly soaked …but it is rainy season…

Sadly, the active volcano and the water-filled crater at Poás went out of the window.

Heading across the border on a short flight to Guatemala tomorrow.
