US Road Trip 2024 – Day 8
Day 8: Billings to Casper
A varied near 300-mile drive south from Montana and back into Wyoming via the tumbleweed wastelands of Indian Arrow and Toluca, breakfast in sleepy Hardin (it actually has its own bitcoin mining facility), Crow Agency and the Little Big Horn battle site and Last Stand Hill in the Crow Reservation.
Then I continued on the 90 through bustling Sheridan and across the Bighorn Mountains.
The route then joined the 25 after I’d had a delightful chicken salad lunch in Buffalo en route to a night halt in the former oil boom town of Casper.
The last 80 miles crossed mile after mile of wild grassland and rolling plains with hardly a truck or car in sight and phone signal was patchy if I’d broken down …
It was a tough call whether to take the slightly longer road south through Cody. It’s hard to believe on a late summer’s morning in 29C heat that it can get down to minus 40 here in winter.
